Create a new project
To create a new project
Click the
New Project button or choose File > New Project to open the New Project window.
Click Browse and either choose an existing folder (directory) to use as the project root folder, or choose a folder in which you want to create a new root folder.
Do one of the following:
- To use an existing folder as the root folder, click OK.
- To create a new folder to use as the root folder, type a backward slash and the name you want to use for the root folder (for example, \New), then click OK.
Make sure the project name does not contain spaces or special characters ( \ / : * ? " ' < > | ) that may be incompatible with other operating systems viewing the PortfolioWall project via the PortfolioWall web client, or that may cause Javascript errors in the PortfolioWall web client.
If you want to create a new root folder on your local computer...
You must specify the drive letter and path (for example, D:\New).
If you want to create a new root folder across a network...
The new root folder must be within a shared folder (for example, \\pc-001\SharedFolder\New).
A prompt appears asking if you want to share the project (that is, make the project visible to other users on the network).
- To share the project, click Yes. Then type a share name (the name that will appear to other users) and click OK.
Make sure the project name does not contain spaces or special characters ( \ / : * ? " ' < > | ) that may be incompatible with other operating systems viewing the PortfolioWall project via the PortfolioWall web client, or that may cause Javascript errors in the PortfolioWall web client.
- To not share the project, click No.
If you are using an existing folder as the root folder, and there are files in the root folder, a prompt appears asking if you want to add them to the project.
- To add the files to the project, click OK.
- To not add the files to the project, click Cancel. (The files will remain within the root folder, but will not be added to the project.)
To save an existing project as a next project
Choose File > Save As to open the file browser.
Type a new name for the project and click Save.
Creating a project
A project is a collection of digital assets (images, movies, 3D models, or other types of documents) represented by thumbnails (small images) and organized into tabs in a certain order.
A project consists of a project file (with a .pwl extension) and a root folder (directory). When you create a new project, PortfolioWall creates a new project file and root folder (or you can use an existing folder as the root folder).
The root folder contains a sub-folder for each project tab. Each sub-folder contains the asset files within that tab.
The project file contains information such as the position of tabs and thumbnails, tags and annotations, and real-world scale information. More than one project file can reference the same root folder, so you can have different asset arrangements, tags, and annotations for the same source files.
When you create a project, you can choose to share the project (so other users can view it) or not share the project (so other users cannot view it).
